Earlier in the year, I learned from a good friend, Geno, about the existence of a non-profit higher education institution by the name of Nashville Software School. As someone who’s always enjoyed tinkering around with programs, that in itself was intriguing. But then, I also found out (I think it was my wife who found that actually) that they have a Data Science Bootcamp, specifically focussing on statistics and data analysis – including some fundamentals of neural networks and machine learning. Needless to say, I just had to apply.
Well, I was accepted in the Data Science cohort and in September started attending the classes, learning python (in particular the pandas package for data science) and furthering my education. That now makes for the 3rd country I’m receiving education in which it’s a personal achievement – and of course, great privilege. Also connected to last month’s post, the NSS is a non-profit organization (which is AWESOME), providing the foundations needed for (mostly) local technological needs.
For the next 9 months or so, I will be quite pressed for time between my work at BRS and attending the Data Science bootcamp, so I probably won’t have the time to edit and publish any new material besides doing monthly updates. Although – who knows for sure?
As I’m starting this journey, there are things that I learned in physics that just need refreshing. And then there are concepts that I either never heard about, or, just in passing. Either way, I learning is always fascinating to me and I can’t wait to see what else I’ll gain along this journey, as well as how it’s going to impact my stories! Till next month!
